So what are we doing here? do we want a uniform grid system? are we following similar rules in terms of amount of text and content? anything else??

I guess I'd be down for a pretty complicated grid system that allows a lot of variable.. I'm thinkin content type things like text vs. pic should be left to the individual tho.
I think agreeing on a more complex grid to semi unify things would be good.
though content and use or not use of text should be up to the individual but if/when people use text are we going to have a limited number of variables there? such as a selection of like 4 typefaces?!
are we going to try to make these decisions as a class?! what do people think about having nathan maybe narrowing down our choices (something like 5 grid options and 10 typefaces?) and then as a class we make the final decisions?
so i looked some info up on lulu...
50 color-page perfect bound 8.5"x11" book, 20 copies, will be $12.03 each, a total of $240.60 combined.
if we did the entire class in one book, 700ish pages, 20 copies, same color and perfect bound on 8.5x11 it will be $109.53 each, a total of $2,190.60 combined.
your thoughts?
It couldn't hurt to shop around some more...maybe order some samples from a few different places see what looks the best combined with the best price
i agree with izzy.
i probably won't get a class book, but just maybe 2 or 3 of my own.
i think we should have a group of people set up a grid for the class, the more complicated the better. i trust the judgement of anyone to work on it.
Here is a review of a Lulu hardcover book. There are examples and pictures of the binding and printing and all, and it seems that the reviewer had a pretty positive experience:

In the article, another site called "blurb" is mentioned as another place to get a book printed. I looked into it a little: one nice thing is that there are a few different sizes ( I think the 7"x7" option looks pretty cool), and despite what is says in the article, it looks like there is an option to do a hard cover with an image wrap. The price is comparable, too. The main drawback with blurb is it only makes up to 440 page books... but it might still work for individual projects?
** Nathan recommended we get 8.25" x 10.75" page.
more on bleeds and other requirements later.
** Casewrap, Color
